Colin Goldberg, Wireframe Drawing 1, 2011. Graphite on Rives BFK paper, 21 x 28 inches.Super-excited to be leaving for my artist residency at The Studios of Key West (TSKW) in a few days! I will arrive on Monday evening, and have a solo show opening up at TSKW’s Eaton Street location on Thursday, May 7 from 6-8 PM. The show will be a survey of work on paper, composed of works from 2006 to the present. A good number of the works were created in 2015 specifically for this exhibition.

I plan on developing a body of new work on paper while there. Since I will not be working out of my own studio, where I have a large-format printer, this new work will be created 100% by hand. It will be an interesting challenge, as much of my work combines digital and traditional media. The digital component will still play a role, as I am going to be using an AAXA pico projector to develop some of the drawings, which will be composed, in part, on my Macbook Pro with the aid of a Wacom drawing tablet.

Several works in this vein, a suite of three “Wireframe drawings” from 2011 will be included in the show. The wireframe forms in these drawings were composed digitally in Adobe Illustrator, then executed by hand as graphite pencil drawings.

Key West holds a special place in my heart; my wife Donna and I were married there in August of 2013, and we spent several weeks there together, soaking up the laid-back island vibe. It is an honor to be invited back to work with the great folks at TSKW and to be able to spend a solid month working on my art. If you happen to be a resident of the “Conch Republic”, it would be great to see you at the opening on Thursday.

I will also be available for private studio visits while I am there, if you wish to check out what I am working on or see some additional work which is not in the show – you can use the contact form on this site if you’d like to set up a time to stop by my studio, which will be located at the TSKW cottages on Ashe St. The Ashe street resident studios will also be open for the monthly “Walk on White” artist walk.
