12.25 x 18.75 in
31.1 x 47.63 cm
This work is signed, titled, and dated recto.
This piece is a unique work, consisting of hand-painted red sumi ink brushwork with a vector-based digital drawing printed directly upon the painted surface with archival pigment-based inks. The overprint is unique to this work and is not used in any other pieces. Highlights on the central form are hand-painted in acrylic. The paper used in these works is Kinwashi, a handmade Japanese hemp paper, whose name means ‘golden fibers’. The piece is from the artist’s Shodo series, which is inspired in part by his maternal grandmother Kimiye Ebisu, who was a lifelong practioner of Shodo, the art of Japanese calligraphy.
